What’s in the backpack

When I started flying and it was time to lay out some cash, I had no idea how to best approach it. I asked around and everybody and their mother had opinions. It was so hard to know what to go with.

New or used? What’s really necessary?

What to upgrade first? Cost considerations?

I’m here for you.
I’m laying out exactly what’s in my pack and how it got there.

P3 paragliding pilot & former hang gliding pilot

I went from a casual, very bad hang glider pilot for the past 10 years to a completely addicted paraglider about 4 years ago, when paragliding became my form of meditation and peace. I’m focused on cross-country because that’s what’s available in my area, but I’d like to try out acro in the future.

Last year I flew 75 hours and thought I’d keep my wing for years, this year I’ve already hit 200 hours and flew in 4 different countries. I’m flying a Skywalk Chili 5, an Ozone BV1 harness and a Charley Diamondcross reserve. My home sites are Lookout Mountain, TN and Henson’s Gap in Dunlap, TN.

I decided to make this site not only to document for myself some of my favorite adventures, but share with the community another resource to help you plan your trip, with all the info I used to make decisions and move forward, without wasting money and time.

I hope you like it!  – Shannon Cook
